159/365: Fan-atic.

This is my fan, and it’s been running pretty much straight for the last three days. This isn’t a complaint (look at the previous 50 blogs for those), I am loving the heat. It seems summer is finally here and I couldn’t be happier. I set up a flash zoomed out  to 24 mm pointing at a white curtain in my living room behind my fan and just south of the frame. Worked out pretty nice.

Anyway, that’s it for today, just got back from my wife’s softball game – another win.

158/365: Alexander Lake.

We went to Alexander Lake today. At least, that’s what I think it’s called. It’s up toward Pine Tree. Regardless, this was my first time up there and I was really surprised at how beautiful it was. It’s sort of in the middle of nowhere, and you walk on a path through the woods and come to wooden steps that turn into a walkway across a small section of the lake. Walk a little further and you come to a large grassy area with a cabin and a small dock. It was the perfect setting for a day like today. We brought lunch and spent a few hours here. The only downside to this scene is that the lake is apparently contaminated (no drinking the water, no eating the fish caught from the lake, no swimming). As with most towns that play home to a military base over the last 50 or more years (American, American/Canadian combination etc.), there is always some type of ruination you find out about because of improperly disposed of chemical/petroleum waste. My town is the same way. It’s amazing what gets buried and emptied from those facilities. It’s almost as amazing as the stupidity of the people that make the decision to do it.

Anyway, it is very nice there, and I was surprised it even existed. Here’s some photos from today.

157/365: Before The Rain.

So I used the 85mm on an actual shoot today. Still getting used to the focal length (it’s a prime, and I keep finding myself backing up) but I love the results.

We did a family shoot early this morning. About 20 minutes after we finished up, it started raining a little. Then a little more. I believe it is only now stopping. I had an idea for a different photo, but the rain got in the way. Maybe that will be for tomorrow. For today though, I’ll let you see one of the many photos we took during our family photo shoot. The whole shoot was really fun, and the subject of this photo was just adorable!!

It’s the weekend, so if you haven’t yet, get out and make some photographs.

156/365: 85 mm f1.8

I received an 85 mm f 1.8 today. I decided to rent it for a week just to check it out. It’s suppose to be a beautiful lens. It’s similar to my 50 mm f1.8, but the build quality is a lot better, it’s a little sharper and doesn’t have the focusing issues of the nifty-fifty. Overall, very nice. The photos you see here for the next week will most likely come from this lens because it’s capable of a lot better than what I have below. I’m really liking it – a lot- but I just have to adjust to a 85 mm prime lens.

So far – LOVELY. Excellent saturation and contrast and beautiful bokeh, too.I can’t wait to get a nicer day to fool around with this lens. Even a gloomy, drizzly day like today looks a lot brighter and happier with this lens.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
