129/365: Dexter’s First Swim
The following photos are a sort of editorial shoot (a bunch of photos here) of Dexter’s first time swimming. He’s part Lab (water dog) and he took to the water like, well, a dog to water, as the saying goes. We’ve been waiting to get him in the water ever since we decided to adopt him.
We woke up and saw that it was a fairly nice day so decided we’d take him to the sand bars here in town. We got him in the water pretty quickly (he thought a puddle that he ran into would be about ankle deep and got a surprise) but shortly after, we’d toss his toy out in the water and he’d jump in without much hesitation. A little hesitation, but I was really happy with his enthusiasm. Watching him swim, you can see he’s a natural – swimming smooth and fast. I think he really liked it.
After a short while, we had a couple visitors. A Black Lab and a Great Dane. It’s easy to see why they are called Great. This puppy was huge, and literally, he’s still a puppy. It was really funny because the dog came running over to us and Dexter noticed and ran to meet him, and the Great Dane stopped and just laid down, showing submission. I thought, really!? So it was a nice encounter and a lot of fun to see a dog that size hop around and be playful. His paws were about the size of my feet.
We then played with Dexter a bit so he could dry off, and I held him while Amy combed him, the little guys sheds sooo much. So it was a great morning, really nice. Now I have to get back to Zack Arias on creativeLIVE.
This was Dexter’s first actual swim.
Our vehicle. I really wanted to have my flash for these photos but didn’t plan of taking them, so I didn’t bring it.
Dexter would cry and struggle when he would see his fur flying off into the wind. He likes to chase his fur and then eat it. 🙂
