One Year Of Photography by Howard Haby

113/365: The Mask

I took a couple photos of this mask Amy and I bought years ago. I’m just laying around feeling miserable and looked on the wall and figured I’d make it part of this project. Both were done with Pocket Wizards, flash, and a grid spot. The flash in the first photo is placed high and in front, and in the second the flash is below. I think both look alright. Anyway, back to bed. Take care all.

Interesting! I like the idea of these ‘pocket wizards’ you speak of, never used one before!

We’ve had a set for almost a year now, and they’re fantastic. There are a number of different “remote flash triggers” from infrared to other types like the PW’s, which just use radio waves. There are knock-off’s out there, people call them ‘poverty wizards’ (haha) and they work ok too, but apparently there are some small issues with them. The PW’s are a little pricey, but I don’t regret spending the money for them and never had a problem.

It’s just cool to me, because the possibilities when taking the flash off the camera are endless. Shooting a photo of someone inside a house or structure through a window from the outside for example. Anyway, they make me happy.
